Heidi Parry Stern

Heidi Parry Stern is a member of Reisman Sorokac and heads its appellate division. Ms. Stern’s practice focuses on complex appeals in state and federal court and on issues of first impression in Nevada.  She has extensive experience drafting appellate briefs and presenting oral argument in both the Ninth Circuit and the Nevada Supreme Court. In addition to her appellate experience, Ms. Stern has over ten years of commercial-litigation experience. Ms. Stern is a native of Las Vegas and has practiced in Nevada since 2004.  Mountain States Super Lawyers recognized her as a “Rising Star” in Appellate Law each year from 2009-2012 and as a “Super Lawyer” in 2013 through 2015.

Prior to joining the Nevada Bar, Ms. Stern practiced as a commercial litigator at one of New York City’s premier law firms, Simpson Thacher and Bartlett. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Johnnie B. Rawlinson, U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, from 2002-2003, and to the Honorable Lawrence Kahn, U.S. District Court, Northern District of New York, from 2001-2002.

  • Nevada Power Co. v. 3 Kids, LLC, 129 Nev. Adv. Op. 47 (2013) (overturned the use of overbroad jury instruction regarding valuation of real property in condemnation actions)
  • Einhorn v. BAC Home Loans Servicing, 128 Nev. Adv. Op. 61 (2012) (preserved district court ruling interpreting the law governing Nevada’s foreclosure mediation program)
  • BAC Home Loans Servicing, LP v. Abdelgadir (In re Abdelgadir), 455 B.R. 896 (9th Cir. BAP 2011) (obtained reversal of bankruptcy court decision interpreting the anti-modification provision of 11 U.S.C. §1123)
  • BMW v. Roth, 252 P.3d 649 (Nev. 2011) (en banc)(obtained reversal of order granting new trial based on attorney misconduct)
  • Jordan v. County of Clark, 9th Cir. Case Nos. 05-16904, 05-17029, and 06-15625 (2007) (preserved a jury verdict in favor of plaintiff on racial discrimination claim)
  • Clark County School District v. Richardson Construction, Inc., 168 P.3d 87 (Nev. 2007) (obtained reversal of overbroad sanctions order against the school district and favorable appellate decision limiting potential damages on remand)
  • Verano v. Eighth Judicial District Court, Case No. 49042 (Nev. 2007) (obtained writ of mandamus reversing district court order bifurcating trial)
  • Domino’s Pizza, Inc. v. McDonald, 546 U.S. 470 (2006) (successfully petitioned for writ of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court, ultimately resulting in reversal and remand in favor of client)
  • Insurance Co. of the West v. Gibson Tile, 134 P.3d 698 (Nev. 2006) (obtained complete reversal of adverse jury verdict against surety client, favorable clarification of Nevada law with regard to liability of sureties, and, on remand, award of summary judgment on claim for attorney’s fees)
  • Rodriguez v. Eighth Judicial District Ct., 102 P.3d 41 (Nev. 2004) (represented real party in interest pro bono, preserving family court ruling on the issue of right to counsel in civil contempt proceedings)
